THE 30TH ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION & ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING 2012 OF IAPL IN BEIJING
The International Association of Practising Lawyers (IAPL) was established in 1982 and is based in Switzerland. Dr. Moses Cheng, our senior partner served as its president between 2010 and 2012. Beijing was selected the venue for its 30th anniversary annual conference and annual general meeting, and they were held on the 10-14 October 2012.
These two events were organized and sponsored by P. C. Woo & Co. and Zhonglun W&D Law Firm, which included a Beijing 1-day sightseeing tour, some official visits, a seminar with topics " Civil legal system in China”, “IP rights in China” and “Development of opportunities for foreign clients", the board meeting & AGM and the 30th anniversary celebration dinner.
The official visits took place on 12 October which included a visit to the Ministry of Justice of the People’s Republic of China and the All China Lawyers Association. At the Ministry, the IAPL Delegation was warmly received by Mr. Du Chun, the director of Justice of the People’s Republic of China office and his deputy Mr. Chao Yang. Member of IAPL was given an introduction to the development of the Legal Profession in China in the last 2 decades. During the visit to ACLA, members of IAPL had discussions and exchanges on the legal system in China with the officials of the ACLA.
Together with the Zhonglun W&D Law Firm, members of IAPL organized a professional development seminar for members of the Legal profession and clients in the morning of the 13th October, 2012. The event was well-attended by close to 100. From the questions and exchange session, it can be seen that the presentations provided by lawyer from IAPL and Zhonglun W&D Law Firm were very well received.
The IAPL held its ABM for the year 2012 in the afternoon of the 13th October. Members had received the reports from the President and the Treasurer and given the Board the Recharge. At the AGM Sabine Krumme succeeded our Senior Partner Moses Cheng as the president of IAPL. They also decided amongst others, to hold the 2013 AGM in Warsaw, Poland.
The highlight of the day on the 13th October was the 30th anniversary celebration dinner. It was truly an “East meets the West" event and get-together fellowship dinner with sumptuous Beijing traditional dishes for the emperor. Again, there were more fun and laughter with musical and singing performances. The director of the Beijing Office of the HKSAR Government Ms. Cathy Chu took time off her busy schedule to join the dinner. So did Mr. Du Chun and Mr. Chao Yang of the Ministry. The dinner ended by all singing "Auld Lang Syne" leaving with sweet memories of this 30th Celebration in Beijing and precious friendship.
